Our Story
One day an Oklahoma farm boy met an Oklahoma country girl. He was wearing a three piece navy suit and white starched shirt. She wore a red dress and little black pumps. Both were in their twenties and living in the fast lane. Attraction at first sight grew into a great love, marriage, and a baby carriage… fast forward…
On a cool, crisp fall afternoon, the Mikles family drove to a farm just outside of Lawrence, KS for the kids to pick a pumpkin from the field. They took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and spent quite a while looking for just the right pumpkins. They loved it! The kids talked about it for weeks afterward. For the next five years, they went to the same farm to take a hay ride and choose just the right pumpkin… Tom thought about living on a farm like he did growing up and Robin wanted to return to country living.
With the possibility of another corporate transfer looming and two children almost school age —dreams collided with reality. The Mikles packed up and moved to Oklahoma, back home, to find a farm and live closer to family. In the fall of 2005, with a white ’76 pickup truck, two acres of pumpkins, and an ad in the Shawnee News-Star, the pumpkin patch opened.
It is our pleasure to welcome you to Mikles Family Farm. You are invited to enjoy a pleasant fun-filled day in the country, on a working farm, and maybe learn a little about agriculture while you are here. Each year, new things are added as the Shawnee Maze and Pumpkin Patch Festival “grows amazing traditions” for family and friends.
